This week has been a lot.
The heat alone is exhausting enough on its own, and for some women, hormonal changes add another layer on top of that. Hot flushes during a heatwave is a particularly tough combination. Whatever's making this week hard for you, aromatherapy can offer some genuine comfort, and that's what I wanted to share today.
Peppermint is known for its cooling properties and is a popular choice for relief from hot flushes specifically, alongside the general heat of a heatwave.
Lavender is calming, and may help ease the emotional stress that often comes with hot flushes, broken sleep, or just a hard week.
Geranium is traditionally used to support emotional wellbeing during hormonal changes.
Frankincense is grounding and centring, helpful when everything feels a bit much.
Sweet Orange is a personal favourite of mine. I find it genuinely uplifting on low days, and it's traditionally used to support a sense of lightness and ease, including around fluid retention.
One of my favourite combinations for this time of life brings lavender, cedarwood and bergamot together. Lavender calms and relaxes, cedarwood provides stability, and bergamot helps balance emotions. Together they make a soothing, grounded blend that's lovely diffused in the evening or added to a carrier oil for a calming massage.
This is just one of 20 blends I've put together specifically for easing anxiety and supporting mood through hormonal changes. If you'd like the full guide, get in touch and I'll send it your way.
If you'd like a ready-made option for right now, my Rose & Geranium Skin Toner kept in the fridge makes a lovely cooling mist, and my Fragrant Bath Salts are ready to use straight from the bag for a relaxing soak.
As always, when using essential oils, check your supplier's usage guidelines, particularly if you're managing any health conditions, pregnant, or taking medication.
Whatever this week has thrown at you, heat, hormones, or both, I hope these oils bring a little comfort. Right now, I'm off to do a little rain dance and hope for cooler days ahead.
